Maputo, 8 October (AIM) – Mozambique and the Republic of the Congo signed a memorandum of understanding to promote investment, develop joint projects and strengthen technical cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector, as part of the official visit of President Daniel Chapo to the Congo.

The agreement was signed in Brazzaville and covers areas such as oil and natural gas exploration and production, refining and processing, storage, transport and marketing of refined products.

The memorandum also provides for cooperation in infrastructure development and exchange of experience in the field of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

According to the Secretary of State of Minas Gerais, Jorge Daúdo, this instrument creates the necessary conditions for partnership between companies in both countries, technology transfer and the training of specialists.

The participation of young people and women in energy-related projects is also envisaged in this cooperation.

The implementation of the planned activities will be overseen by a joint technical committee, which will be responsible for developing and monitoring cooperation programmes.

The signing of the memorandum on hydrocarbons was part of a set of legal instruments signed by both countries during Daniel Chapo’s official visit to the Republic of the Congo.

The agreements cover areas such as political consultations, visa exemptions, bilateral cooperation, culture and the arts, fisheries and aquaculture, small and medium-sized enterprises, forest management, tourism, maritime services and hydrocarbons.

The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Presidents Daniel Chapo and Denis Sassou Nguesso and marked the last day of the official visit of the Mozambican Head of State.

Following the discussions, Daniel Chapo called for enhanced cooperation among African countries, linking stability and security to development conditions.

“We Africans must remain united and united in order to face the major security challenges. There are no countries in the world that develop without peace,” he said.

For his part, Denis Sassou Nguesso assured that steps would be taken to implement the agreements signed by both countries.

In bilateral relations, Daniel Chapo invited the Congolese President to visit Mozambique.

Daniel Chapo’s official visit to the Republic of the Congo included meetings with the Congolese authorities and the signing of cooperation agreements in various fields.
